Bocce is an Italian lawn game. The game is played by two teams, each with1–4 players. The game can be played on grass, dirt, hardwood floors, or asphalt. The goal of the game is to get your colored bocce balls as close as possible to the pallino, which is a white ball that is roughly 2 inches in diameter. Each team has to decide if they want the red or blue colored bocce balls. When you start the game, there will be a coin toss, and the winner will throw the white pallino ball and the game can begin. Each team takes turns, but each player can throw the bocce balls until they are closest to the pallino or until they run out of balls. You win the game by getting points. You get points by getting your colored balls as close as possible to the white ball. In order to get 2 points or more, you need to get your balls in a closer radius to the white ball than your opponent’s. Team members will need to use measuring tapes to see who is the closest. You can get 6 points or less per round.
On February 2, 2026, PS/IS 206 Joseph Lamb played against I.S. 234 W.A. Cunningham. The PS/IS 206 Griffins won with a final score of 8–4. “I think our team was very determined and focused.” Bocce team member and staff writer for the Lamb Lantern was eager to share his experience. “It was our first competition against another school and I felt it was easy. I have a lot of respect for the Cunningham team because they had great sportsmanship. They congratulated us and shook our hands after the game. This game made me feel more confident in my bocce abilities. I can’t wait until our next competition!”
Ms. Jackel and Ms. McMahon have run the club for several years. If you have any questions, please see them or a player on the team. Go Griffins!
