A very exciting performance is coming up on June 1, when students from different schools in District 22 will perform together at the Music Ambassadors Concert. This event will feature six talented students from P.S. 206’s concert band. They were selected to attend a rehearsal on Jan. 30 at Marine Park Junior High School, where they practiced music for the performance with around 50 other kids from all around the district. The next rehearsals are scheduled for April 1 and May 29.
These six students consisted of two flautists, one clarinettist, one trumpeter, one saxophonist, and one euphoniumist.
The performers were assigned to practice two sheets of music titled “Stormchasing” and “Thor’s Hammer.”
To learn more about the experience, we interviewed a seventh-grade student who was selected, Kira Yarmolchanka.
- What instrument do you play?
“I play the clarinet.”
- How did you feel when you were chosen to be part of this production?
“I was really excited because I really enjoy playing my instrument and having to get the opportunity to perform with it.”
- Are the pieces of music easy or hard?
“In my personal opinion, the music is mostly easy since there is easy notes that I already knew by heart, but it is a little difficult because I have to switch fast through notes and play really fast.”
- How is it playing the clarinet?
“I enjoy playing the clarinet a lot because it is really fun for me and it’s my hobby I like to do in my free time.”
- Are you nervous to perform on June 1?
“Yes, I’m nervous because I’m afraid I might mess up or forget my music.”
- What inspired you to choose your instrument?
“What inspired me was seeing so many people play it online and it looking really cool and sounding really nice.”
- What was it like going there?
“I really liked going to practice in a different school. It made me feel like a professional clarinet player. Everyone there was very experienced, so it felt nice to be surrounded by such good players.”
The Music Ambassadors Concert will be an awesome show! With so many brilliant students coming together, it’s surely going to be a memorable experience.
