Introduction
Meet the After School Band, a band which is derived from PS/IS 206. The teacher who created all of this is our band teacher, Ms Bentsen. We also have about 25 students in our group. Our band consists of the drums, the glockenspiel, the flute, the clarinet, the trombone, the trumpet, and more interesting instruments! When you join the band you are provided a book, where you can learn how to play notes. All the band participants have the option to take the instrument home and practice, or you have the option to leave the instrument at the auditorium. This is the introduction of the After School Band.
A Day in the Life of a Band Student
You might be wondering what we do in the school band. Of course, we play instruments, but there’s more to it. Every Friday, we meet in the auditorium. Sometimes, Ms. Bentsen posts announcements in the After School Band Google Classroom. She may call in students who play the same type of instrument, such as percussion, woodwinds, or brass or she may schedule separate small‑group sessions. These groups include flute, clarinet, saxophone, glockenspiel, snare drum, euphonium, and more.
Learn About the Sections of a Band
There are four core sections in a traditional orchestra, each playing an important role:
String Section
Includes the violin, viola, cello, and double bass.
Woodwind Section
Includes the flute, clarinet, piccolo, oboe, bass clarinet, bassoon, contrabassoon, and saxophone.
Brass Section
Includes the trumpet, trombone, French horn, and tuba.
Percussion Section
Includes timpani, glockenspiel, xylophone, marimba, chimes, celesta, drums, cymbals, triangle, woodblocks, tambourines, and castanets.
These sections make up a typical orchestra.
Our Band Sections
Our band includes three main sections: woodwinds, brass, and percussion. The specific instruments we use in the After School Band include the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, bass drum, snare drum, and glockenspiel.
