Have you been wondering what’s going on with the construction at our school? Well, we’re here to give you an update: On April 27, 2026, I met with Principal Corrado to discuss progress on the construction of our new building.
According to Mrs. Corrado, the new addition should be completed by mid-June, and it will be available to the public starting in August. The city has brought in additional builders, which means that the construction will be finished more quickly than expected. This is amazing news for the PS/IS 206 community. In addition, our new building will have an additional lunchroom, an art room, and a science lab. The building will also have greater accessibility for individuals with disabilities, such as an elevator.
Building a five-floor building extension can come with some challenges. Contractors have not been able to build the bridges connecting the new building to our existing school because they require welding. Welding is the process of fusing metal or plastic together by using high heat, such as a gas fire or lasers. This has forced the builders to work on the bridges during days when students are not in school.
For our soccer and basketball lovers, basketball courts and a new soccer field will be available to students. However, the painted lines will come a bit later in the fall once we resume school.
Although Mrs. Corrado was not able to show us the blueprints or pictures of the new building’s interior, she has promised us a tour once it’s complete, so we can bring you the inside scoop then. The Lamb Lantern will continue to follow this story into the 2026-2027 school year.
